The buzz around a potential sequel to the iconic 2000 film Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai has fans excited, and lead actress Ameesha Patel recently addressed the speculation. The romantic thriller, which marked the Bollywood debut of both Patel and Hrithik Roshan, celebrated its 25th anniversary in January 2025 with a theatrical re-release.

Directed by Rakesh Roshan, the movie was a massive hit upon its original release, becoming the second-highest-grossing film of that year, and catapulting its stars to fame overnight. The re-release reignited nostalgia, with audiences flocking to theaters to relive the magic of Rohit and Sonia, prompting renewed calls for a second installment.

Recently, Patel was quizzed by paparazzi about the possibility of Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai 2. She responded with a smile, saying, “Rakesh uncle se poocho. Hrithik se poocho. Banna toh chahiye. Audience ko toh chahiye.” Her statement reflects her openness to the idea while deferring the decision to the film’s director, Rakesh Roshan, and her co-star, Hrithik Roshan. The actress’s words hint at the strong fan demand driving the sequel chatter, especially after the warm reception to the re-release.

Reflecting on the original film’s impact, Patel shared memories of its life-changing success in an earlier interview. “From being a normal boy and girl-next-door, we became sensations. Rohit and Sonia became the nation’s crush. It wasn’t an ordinary film. People took home the characters. I was numb for many, many days after that. I don’t know how it sank in. It was just surreal!” she recalled.

She also described the overnight fame that followed: “There is a bounce in your step. You are recognized everywhere. That’s the one major change from being just a normal girl next door, you become everyone’s heartthrob. With a film like Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, you live in their hearts. They’ve taken home the characters, it’s just not an ordinary film. Rohit and Sonia became the nation’s crushes. You’re recognized at airports, restaurants, gyms, wherever you’re stepping foot, people want your autograph, they want your pictures. So that’s your first brush with stardom and it’s euphoric.”

As of 3 March 2025, no official word has come from Rakesh or Hrithik Roshan, leaving fans hopeful but waiting for confirmation.
