Talking about Shah Rukh Khan, Kamal Haasan was heard saying, “Let me speak on behalf of Mr. SRK because I am sure he’ll allow me to do that. When we worked together, we were just people. I don’t see a superstar; he doesn’t see a super director. We are friends. In fact, Shah Rukh Saab did that film (Hey Ram) for free. What more do you need?”

Haasan continued, “That’s not something a superstar would typically do. It takes a true lover of cinema, a connoisseur of art, and a great actor. I am incredibly grateful to him.”

Hey Ram, which released back in 2000, is a critically acclaimed film which delves into several controversial events in Indian history, such as the destruction of the Babri Mosque in Ayodhya, the Partition of India, and the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. Shah Rukh Khan played Amjad Ali Khan, a friend of Saket Ram (played by Kamal Haasan). The movie was selected by the Film Federation of India as its submission to the Oscars in the year 2000, but was not nominated.
