A hilarious online mix-up stole the spotlight after India’s thrilling four-wicket victory over Australia in the Champions Trophy 2025 semifinal at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on 4 March 2025. Bowler Varun Chakravarthy, who dismissed Travis Head in Australia’s innings, left a cheeky comment on Bollywood star Varun Dhawan’s Instagram post, amplifying a wave of fan confusion that jokingly credited the actor for the cricketer’s on-field heroics. The match saw India chase down 265 to secure a spot in the final, but it’s the social media banter that’s now making headlines.
Dhawan, known for films like October and Badlapur, shared a suave photo of himself on Instagram post-match, captioned, “Back at it!! Entering the grind mode.” Dressed in black with his hair styled back, the actor was hinting at his return to work.
Fans, however, linked the timing to India’s win, flooding the comments with “Well bowled, Varun!” and “Thanks for getting Travis Head out,” playfully attributing Chakravarthy’s feat to Dhawan due to their shared first name. The semifinal, where Chakravarthy took 2 wickets, including Head’s for 39, helped restrict Australia to 264, setting the stage for India’s chase, led by Virat Kohli’s 84.
Chakravarthy, fresh off his stellar tournament form, including a five-wicket haul against New Zealand earlier in Dubai, jumped into the fun. Commenting on Dhawan’s post, he wrote, “Well bowled bhaiya,” followed by folded hands and smiling emoji. Later, Varun Dhawan made the exact same comment on Varun Chakravarthy’s latest Instagram post, leaving fans even more entertained.
These quips went viral, delighting fans who’d watched India triumph in a nail-biting finish, with KL Rahul (42 not out) hitting a six to seal the deal with 11 balls to spare. The Dubai clash showcased Chakravarthy’s spin mastery on a sluggish pitch, making his playful jab at Dhawan a perfect encore to a memorable night for Indian cricket.
